Shin-ichi Tanabe

Waseda University, Japan

He was born in Fukuoka in 1958. He is an expert in the fields of indoor air quality, thermal comfort, and energy. He graduated from the Department of Architecture, Waseda University in 1982. He has been Professor at the Department of Architecture, Waseda University since 2001. He stayed at the Laboratory of Heating and Air Conditioning, Technical University of Denmark during 1984-1986 and at the Center for Environmental Design Research, University of California, Berkeley during 1992-1993 and at Lawrence National Laboratory (LBNL) during 1997. He was a guest Professor at the International Centre for Indoor Environment and Energy, Technical University of Denmark during 2002-2003 and Dalian University of Technology in China from 2008.

He received Ralph. G. Nevins Award from ASHRE in 1989. Technical Award, Society of Heating, Air Conditioning, and Sanitary Engineers, Japan, 1995.
Prize of Research from Architectural Institute of Japan in 2002. He served as a plenary speaker for famous conferences like Indoor Air 2014, Healthy Buildings 2009, Indoor Air 2005, CLIMA 2005, ROOMVENT 2004, and Healthy Buildings 2003 and so on.

His currently research interests is Zero Energy Building including houses and office workers’ productivity. Office workers comfort and satisfaction is a key for smart environment. He is Fellow Member of American Society of Heating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and the Federation of Engineering Society Japan. He is a committee member of Energy Conservation, Agency for Natural Resources and Energy, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and so on. He is President of Japanese Association of Building Mechanical and Electrical Engineers. Also he is Chair of ISO/TC146/SC6.
